Three Me's

In the OTSWT model, we look at three basic states of being.  We call them:
  • Authentic or Essential Me/Self (AM)
  • Little or Lesser Me/Self (LM)
  • Englightened Me/Self (EM)
In an average day we move through these different selves based on the dominance of the Minor Self.  This is typically a function of what is going on around us and the stories we are telling in each moment.

Major and Minor Me can be in three basic combinations:
Picture
Authentic/Essential Me (AM)
  • The story I'm telling is serving me in moving in the direction I want
  • In balance with Major and Minor selves
Here our Minor Self (mS) isn't eclipsing the light of the Major Self (MS).  I feel centered and grounded regardless of whether I am experience positive or negative emotions.  I feel at centered.

It is difficult in this moment to be thrown into my Little Self, and the things that may usually "set me off" just don't hold that kind of power over me.

Little Me (LM)
  • The story I'm telling is not serving me in this moment
  • Major Me (MS) by the Minor Self (mS)
Here the my Minor Self is out of proportion in the moment dominating my Major Self.  In addition, it acts as the "dark switch"  effectively eclipsing the "deep inner peace circuitry" of the Major Self.

I feel "off balance" and unsettled regardless of whether the emotions I am feeling are positive or negative.  I can be "really happy", however it is very easy to send me to the negative side if you question why or what I'm up to.

Picture
Englightened Me (EM)
  • In this moment I am without a story and fulling embracing the moment
  • Allowing the full light of the Major Self to shine through me and into the world
Here I am fully connected to the world around me, without resistance, fully allowing "all that is".  Flowing Major Me freely happens often without our recognition and takes practice to recognize.  However there are times we can point to for indicators:
  • Falling in love - New love lowers the barriers of our Minor Selves and allows us to fully experience the light of our Major Self
  • Seeing a baby, puppy or kitten - The world around us falls away as we look upon and interact in these situations.  It's as if we have forgot the world in our easy yet intense focus
  • That time that everything was right with the world... for some reason I just knew I was part of something much bigger than just me
Our enlightened selves are what we are truly seeking... These are the feelings that we look to accomplish through all kinds of means whether it be a new car, a new partner or having a baby.

In all cases Major Me is static, and Minor Me is monitoring and adjusting to the situations around us on a moment-to-moment basis.  The issue becomes that, all too often, Minor Me dominates our internal conversations and doesn't allow for the inter-connectedness that is at the heart of who we are.

See how the Funnel Model helps our awareness of where we are in any given moment.
